Gastroenterology

The Gastroenterology department manages complex pancreaticobiliary disease, inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal failure, functional diseases and other general gastroenterology. The department provides a comprehensive endoscopic service including general endoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound, interventional endoscopy, balloon enteroscopy, capsule endoscopy and emergency services (GI bleeding, biliary obstruction). 

There is also dedicated expertise in endoscopic management of bariatric surgical complications. There is a close working relationship with gastrointestinal surgeons and formalised participation in colorectal, upper-gastrointestinal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease multidisciplinary team meetings. There is also close collaboration with Genetic Services WA in managing one of the largest groups of familial GI cancer syndromes. The department has 2 Advanced Trainees and 2 Fellows (endoscopic ultrasound and interventional endoscopy). The medical staff are also involved in nationally recognised endoscopic training, and co-authors of guidelines for upper GI and colonoscopic surveillance, advanced endoscopy and bowel cancer screening.
