This multi-disciplinary course focuses on the emergency management of critical obstetric emergencies. It is designed for emergency clinicians who rarely encounter critically unwell obstetric patients, including Emergency Physicians, Nurses, and Prehospital staff. Applications are open to all clinicians involved in obstetric emergencies.

The faculty includes Emergency Physicians, Obstetricians, Anaesthetists, Midwives, and Neonatologists. This one-day program combines interactive workshops and high-fidelity simulation sessions to build confidence in managing obstetric crises and neonatal resuscitation.

Course objectives

  • Develop the knowledge and skills required to manage obstetric patients in emergency settings
  • Work as an ED team in simulated environments to manage a variety of obstetric emergencies
  • Apply Crisis Resource Management strategies for critically unwell obstetric patients
  • Build capacity for reflection and self-discovery

  • Management of the unwell pregnant patient
  • Emergency obstetric complications: shoulder dystocia, eclampsia, post-partum haemorrhage
  • Resuscitative hysterotomy
  • Trauma in pregnancy
  • Obstetric causes of mortality
  • Introduction to neonatal resuscitation
