For Patients & Visitors

Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) is one of Australia's leading teaching tertiary hospitals. It has more than 600 beds and employs about 5500 staff who treat more than 420,000 patients each year.

SCGH has 60,000 Emergency Department presentations, admits more than 93,000 patients and has more than half a million outpatient visits each year.

SCGH is a publicly-funded hospital.  Patients who are eligible for Medicare receive free treatment. Patients who are not eligible for Medicare are required to pay for treatment. Information about Medicare eligibility is available at www.medicare.gov.au (external site).

Patients are generally referred to SCGH for treatment by their GP or another specialist. If you need medical advice contact your GP or HealthDirect Australia on 1800 022 222.
