Critical Care

Coronary Care Unit

Fourteen-bed critical care unit that provides care to critically ill cardiac patients with any of the following conditions:

  • Acute Coronary Syndrome including ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) with a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week primary Angioplasty Service,
  • Heart Failure, Acute Pulmonary Oedema and Cardiogenic Shock including Intra Aorta Balloon Pump and Non-Invasive Ventilation,
  • Haemodynamically compromised Tachy arrhythmias and Bradyarrhythmias including temporary pacemakers and direct current cardioversion

Procedures include:

  • High-risk coronary angioplasty
  • Electrophysiolgy ventricular tachycardia ablation and structural including trans aortic valve implantation
  • Mitral and aortic valvuloplasty
  • Mitralclip
  • Left atrial appendage occlusion.

 

ED - Emergency Department

Fast-paced dynamic work area, which sees 200-250 patients a day and has more than 76,000 presentations a year.

Consists of nine resus beds and two trauma bays and offers a supportive teaching environment with multiple progression opportunities and accelerated clinical pathway for AIN's to assist with workloads.

 

ICU - Intensive Care Unit

Contains 30 critical care beds and provides care for patients requiring state services such as Neurointerventional and neurology, sarcoma state centre, toxicology, abdominal transplants and other medical and surgical patients requiring ICU admission.

Provides a novice upskilling professional develop program and supports role and career progression.

Large nursing team including staff development nurses, Clinical Nurse specialists and management team as well as working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
