Specialist Services, Outpatient Clinics and Imaging
Breast Care Centre
Outpatient and imaging procedural area supporting patients going through the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer and other breast diseases.
Breast care nurses and general nurses support surgical consultants, breast physicians, radiologists, Medical Imaging Technologists, physiotherapists and clinical psychologists to provide holistic and compassionate care.
Cardiovascular Invasive Laboratory
Provides interventional, structural heart, electrophysiology and endovascular procedures to Inpatients and Outpatients.
The area consists of three catheterisation laboratories staffed by a multidisciplinary team which provides high quality care for a variety of patients ranging from stable to critically unwell.
The area facilitates a 24/7 cardiac emergency ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) service.
The team promote innovative treatment options for patients, introducing groundbreaking technologies and procedures, with the aim to change patients’ lives.
Cardiac Rehabilitation and Heart Failure
Provides comprehensive education to patients who have Acute Coronary Syndrome or heart failure. This is done in conjunction with the patient’s GP, cardiologist, allied health professionals and family members. It is offered in a variety of formats which include nurse-led clinics, Telehealth video conferencing, phone clinics and group cardiac information sessions.
Discharge Ward
Purpose-built area for patients to be cared for while waiting for their discharge/transfer needs to be completed. The ward consists of nine bed spaces and 22 chairs.
Care may consist of changing dressings, IVABx, suture removal and lots of patient education.
Joondalup Health Campus - Dialysis
Twelve bed satellite unit situated at Joondalup Health Campus staffed by SCGH.
Novice dialysis nurses will be upskilled at the incentre dialysis unit (G65) before being able to transfer to Joondalup. Small workforce and offers great learning opportunities.
The unit runs three shifts from Monday to Friday, two shifts on Saturdays and a morning shift on Sundays.
G75 – Endoscopy
Standalone endoscopy unit, performing general and interventional procedures for gastroenterology, respiratory, and urology.
The ward admits, recovers and discharges outpatients and inpatients. No endoscopy experience required to apply with a comprehensive orientation provided for all new staff.
The wards hours are 0700-1830 Monday to Friday with an afterhours emergency on call service.
Haematology Day Unit
Small dynamic nurse-led outpatient clinic specifically catering to patients with blood-based cancers and conditions seven days a week.
Responsible for a hospital-wide Apheresis Service for a variety of acute autoimmune conditions delivered both in ICU, on a ward or in the department.
The unit has a nurse-lead Maintenance Red Blood Cell Exchange Program for transfusion dependent Sickle Cell patients and provide white cell depletions for patients in a blast crisis and Platelet depletions.
Nursing staff:
- Deliver different chemotherapy regimens.
- Work closely with the Haematology trials department delivering innovative treatments.
- Support the registrars performing bone marrow aspirate testing with the use of Penthrox.
- Support the patient post Intrathecal chemotherapy.
- Are trained in the collection of stem cells for autologous stem cell transplants and reinfusion of the cells at the time of transplant.
- Are proficient in cannulation and in the use and care of a variety of CVADs.
- Provide comprehensive patient education.
- Identify side effects that are treated appropriately with the support of the medical team.

Home Link / Hospital in the Home (HITH)
Dynamic nursing service that covers both admitted (HITH) and non-admitted care delivery of short-term acute services in the patients’ home environment for conditions that traditionally required hospital inpatient treatment.
Provides a range of acute nursing care including:
- V antibiotics
- Drain management
- Management of delirium in the home
- Early discharge post joint replacements
- Wound management (including complex wound care)
- Infusaport management
- Trial of voids
- Immunotherapy
- Post-operative breast care
The nursing team receive over 3500 referrals each year and have a clinic based in C block at SCGH.
Medical Oncology Day Unit
Nurse-led innovative unit delivering chemotherapy, immunotherapy and supportive treatments.
The unit supports ADAC upskilling and is open five days a week from 8am to 8pm.
Neurological Intervention and Imaging Service WA
Provides treatment for vascular disease of the brain, head, neck and spine including brain aneurysms, vascular malformations, carotid disease and interventional stroke therapy.
Nurses staff procedural theatres at both SCGH and Fiona Shanley Hospital which including on call at SCGH.
Nuclear Medicine/PET Service
Delivers a variety of imaging and therapeutic services to a diverse range of patients including in/outpatients, children/adults and acute/medical.
OPH - Endoscopy
Fast-paced unit running two to three endoscopy rooms working Monday to Friday with no on-call or shift work.
Outpatients
Nurses will be part of the outpatient nursing team and will gain experience in all clinic areas including ophthalmology, ENT orthopaedics and mixed specialties (include cardiology, endocrine, medical and surgical).
Working Monday to Friday with family friendly working hours and no shift weekends and public holidays. Full training in all aspects of patient care is provided to all staff members.
Pain Management
Multidisciplinary out-patient clinic/procedural unit to support the management of persistent pain. Working Monday to Friday with no night or late shifts and no on-call.
Plastics dressing clinic/IV Lounge
Busy clinic providing a post operative wound management service to plastic surgery patients.
This includes:
- Complex wound management
- Graft care
- Breast reconstruction
- Hand trauma
- Skin cancers
Nurses assist in local anaesthetic procedures with supernumerary allocation, training and support provided to all new team members.
The IV Lounge is a nurse-led service which provides a range of infusions for patients.
Radiation Oncology
Supports up to 250 patients a day through radiation treatment and contains five linear accelerators and one Cyber Knife unit. There is close liaison with other specialities and symptom control. Nurse-led interventions are supported, and education and learning is encouraged.
Radiology – Interventional, Diagnostic and Procedural Imaging
Radiology is a dynamic area and provides treatment for vascular disease of the body, hepatic and renal.
Residential Care Line
Nurse practitioner-led, outreach service that supports residential aged care facility staff to provide care in place, where appropriate, to reduce the need for unnecessary emergency department presentations and hospital admissions and reduce length of stay in hospitals.
The team of clinical nurses, clinical nurse consultants and nurse practitioners provide timely access to appropriate care pathways and to improve the quality of life of older people living in residential care.
Respiratory Outpatient Department
Provides a range of respiratory services in an outpatient clinic setting comprising of an experienced team including doctors, a nurse practitioner, clinical nurse consultants and a comprehensive allied health team.
The clinic undertakes lung function, pleural disease management including, medication administration, bronchoscopy, respiratory assessment and patient education.
The department specialises in pulmonary hypertension, lung cancer, lung transplants, interventional bronchoscopy, sarcoidosis, asthma, asbestos related disease, cystic fibrosis, mesothelioma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, bronchiectasis, pleural diseases and interstitial lung disease.
Sterilisation Service Department
Delivers high-quality sterilisation services to various departments as well as outside services including wards, theatre, cardiac catheterisation laboratories, radiology, NIISWA, Plastic Dressing Clinic, transplant services and outpatient clinics.
Nurses provide guidance and assistance with the purchase of new instruments to ensure they meet sterilisation standards.
Waitlist Management
Clinical Nurse Managers manage the elective services waitlist at SCGH. Non-clinical area clinical nurses manage and book elective surgery for SCGH and some OPH lists.
All staff require training prior to coming for leave or secondment cover.
