Safe Cosmetic Sedation
This is simulation course designed to train cosmetic teams in safe sedation practices for adults.
This course is based on the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) Guideline on Procedural Sedation PG09 and will cover their stated Safe Sedation Competencies.
Course content:
- Pharmacology of emergency and sedative medicines.
- Goals of sedation and pre-sedation assessment
- Stratifying risk and level of sedation required for cosmetic procedures
- Safety equipment and facilities requirements
- Preparation for sedation
- Administration and monitoring of sedation
- Recognition and management of complications
- Recovery from sedation
This course is run by Anaesthetists and Critical Care nurses. It will involve both pre-reading, lectures, skills stations and team-based simulation sessions targeted to cosmetic practices. Attendance by the whole cosmetic team is recommended to ensure optimisation of the cosmetic team.
