Further Information for patients
Why did I get this letter?
Both Sir Charles Gairdner and Osborne Park Hospitals are contacting patients to understand the needs of patients who are currently waiting for an outpatient specialist appointment.
We understand some people may no longer require their specialist appointment and may have forgotten to tell us that they sought care elsewhere.
What do I need to do?
If still need your hospital appointment, book an appointment with your general practitioner within 6 weeks and ask them for an updated referral.
If you do not need an appointment, do nothing. Your referral will be closed.
Why does my referral need to be updated?
We recognise that your situation might have changed since we received your referral. Updated referrals are needed so we know which patients still need care. This will ensure we have an up-to-date record of your medical and medication history to assist in accurate triaging.
Will I lose my place on the waiting list for an appointment?
You will keep your place on the waitlist if you still need an appointment and visit your GP and asked them to send an updated referral within 6 weeks of the date on the letter you received.
You will only lose your place on the waitlist if an updated referral is not received within 6 weeks.
Is my doctor aware my referral needs to be reviewed?
Yes, we have sent your referring GP a letter.
What if I don’t visit my GP?
If you still need your appointment, you must make an appointment with a GP so they can send us an updated referral.
If you don’t see a doctor and an updated referral is not received within 6 weeks of the date on the letter your referral will be closed. We will send confirmation to you once your referral has been closed.
What if I see a different doctor at the same medical practice?
If you see a different doctor at the same medical practice, your new doctor will have access to your information and be able to update your referral.
What if I see a doctor at a different medical practice, don’t have a regular GP or was referred by someone else?
If you see a different doctor, please see them within six weeks of the date on the letter and take your letter with you. If your new GP believes you still need an appointment, they need to write an updated referral. Your GP can refer to the Sir Charles Gairdner or Osborne Park Hospital websites for more information.
When will I receive an appointment?
When an appointment becomes available, you will be sent an appointment letter. Waiting times vary depending on the urgency of your condition.
What if my condition gets worse?
If your condition is getting worse, please book an appointment to see your GP to discuss your care. If your condition becomes an emergency, please present to your closest emergency department.
How can I access an interpreter?
You can access an interpreter by calling TIS National on 131 450.
