Endocrine Surgical Services Unit
The Endocrine Surgical Services Unit (ESSU) at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) provides specialist surgical treatment for thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal and other endocrine conditions. Our team of highly experienced adrenal, parathyroid and thyroid surgeons offer evidence-based, patient-centred care, working closely with endocrinologists, haematologists, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal outcomes.
Specialised surgical services
- Thyroid surgery – Including treatment for thyroid nodules, goitre and thyroid cancer.
- Parathyroid surgery – For primary, secondary and tertiary hyperparathyroidism.
- Adrenal surgery – Management of adrenal tumours and adrenal incidentalomas.
- Neuroendocrine pancreas surgery
- Diagnostic lymph node biopsies – For haematological and endocrine-related conditions.
We also provide surgical care for urgent haematological conditions, with most diagnostic surgical biopsies performed within two weeks of referral.
The ESSU operates in close collaboration with the SCGH Department of Endocrinology and Haematology, ensuring every patient benefits from a multidisciplinary approach.
Monthly multidisciplinary team meetings, surgical audits, and peer reviews are conducted to maintain the highest standards of surgical excellence.

- Fixed neck mass
- Thyroid cancer
- Rapidly enlarging thyroid neck mass
