Outpatient Prehabilitation Service
The Prehabilitation service is a pre-surgical outpatient multidisciplinary allied health team providing physiotherapy, dietetics, and clinical psychology.
The service aims to improve patients’ physical, nutritional, and psychological health prior to complex surgery or stem cell transplant and is available to patients under the medical governance of Sir Charles Gairdner Osborne Park Health Care Group.

- Reduced risk of post-surgical complications and the need to return to hospital

- Gaining health advice and strategies that may have longer lasting benefits beyond the current health issue
Treatments
- Physical, nutritional, and psychological health assessments
- Group and at-home exercise programs
- Nutritional advice, food fortification strategies and nutritional supplements
- Individual and group psychotherapy implementing cognitive and behavioural change strategies
Inclusion criteria
Patients planned for:
- Thoracic surgery, pelvic surgery
- Major abdominal surgery
- Upper Gastrointestinal surgeries - Whipple/esophagectomy
- Colorectal/gynae – laparoscopic colorectal resection, pelvic exenteration
- Urology - cystoprostatectomy
- Pre stem cell transplant patients
- Head and neck surgery
