Skills Training for Anaesthetic Residents (STAR)
Skills Training for Anaesthetic Residents (STAR)
The STAR course, developed by the Royal Melbourne Hospital, is a full-day program designed for junior anaesthetic trainees and residents entering the anaesthetic training program. This course bridges the knowledge gap for new trainees, combining technical and non-technical skills with a strong focus on crisis management, leadership, and team coordination.
Participants will work in small groups with a high faculty-to-participant ratio, rotating through interactive stations and high-fidelity simulations to build confidence in managing complex anaesthetic scenarios.
Topics include:
- Airway management
- Advanced life support
- CICO (Can’t Intubate, Can’t Oxygenate)
- Management of anaesthetic crises
- Case-based discussions
- Professional practice and teamwork
2026 dates
- 27 March

The STAR course is organised via the Royal Melbourne Hospital, and all registrations will be taken through them. More information on the STAR Course (external site)
