With a range of nursing opportunities currently available at Sir Charles Gairdner (SCGH) and Osborne Park Hospital (OPH), Emergency Department nurse Jess shared why she loves working at Charlies and why others will too.

In 2022, Jess made the decision to return to Perth after several years living on the east coast.

“I missed the WA lifestyle, the incredible beaches, warm sunny days and the many road trip adventures,” Jess said.

When it came to choosing a hospital, Jess reached out to nurses and doctors at Perth’s major emergency departments with SCGH at the top of the list.

“I heard consistently that it was a supportive environment with great people, excellent learning opportunities and a broad range of study day options,” Jess said.

“Intrigued, I contacted the recruitment manager and immediately knew Charlies was where I wanted to be."

Jess said the recruitment process was straightforward and welcoming, and the education team provided her with a tailored progression plan that acknowledged her previous experience in ED, while ensuring a supportive and smooth transition into the new hospital.

Two years on and Jess couldn’t speak more highly of SCGH.

“Working here has not only enabled me to accomplish so much and enhanced my professional skills but has also given me a sense of pride in the work we do every day,” she said.

“I’ve been able to complete my Masters Degree in Advanced Clinical Nursing - Emergency and have also had the opportunity to attend trauma days, advanced life support workshops and collaborate with a remarkable team,” she said.

Jess said one thing that had impressed her most about SCGH was the hospital’s commitment to evolution.

“There’s a constant drive to stay at the forefront of best practices, ensuring the highest standards of patient care and clinician knowledge,” she said.

"I am incredibly grateful to everyone who suggested that I apply to SCGH.

“I’ve never once regretted returning to Perth and joining the Charlies ED team, it’s been the perfect blend of challenge, growth, and community."

Want to join the team? SCGH and OPH currently have enrolled and registered nursing positions available.
