Gastroenterology
The Department of Gastroenterology provides tertiary referral services across the full spectrum of luminal, pancreaticobiliary and advanced interventional gastroenterology. Key areas of expertise include complex pancreaticobiliary disease, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), gastrointestinal bleeding, motility and functional gastrointestinal disorders, bariatric and post-surgical complications, intestinal failure and advanced therapeutic endoscopy.
We provide comprehensive inpatient, outpatient and consultative services and a highly specialised endoscopy program. We are nationally recognised for our work in advanced endoscopy including third-space endoscopy.
We participate in multidisciplinary team meetings for upper gastrointestinal cancer, colorectal cancer, pancreaticobiliary disease and IBD. The department also works closely with Genetic Services WA for the management of hereditary gastrointestinal cancer syndromes and complex polyposis conditions.
The department is committed to education, teaching, endoscopy training and research, and contributes to national and international research, guideline development, strategic advice and health policy.
