General High Dependency Unit

The General High Dependency Unit (GHDU) is a seven bed critical care unit, that delivers specialist care to critically unwell patients from a wide range of specialties. Patients from both medical and surgical specialities are managed and cared for by the GHDU team in collaboration with the admitting specialty.

The staff on the GHDU work together as a team to provide a multidisciplinary approach to ensure the delivery of comprehensive care to patients. The GHDU is accredited with the College of Intensive Care Medicine and has a strong focus on education, research and innovation.

Services:

  • Management of critically ill patients
  • Management of post-operative patients
  • Monitoring of acute ischaemic stroke patients on the WA Health Endovascular Clot Retrieval pathway
  • Support to the Broome Hospital HDU via Telehealth link

Referrals:

  • External patients are referred by their primary medical team by contacting the ICU Senior Registrar via switchboard on (08) 6457 3333.

Visitors:

  • Location: The GHDU is located on the 4th floor in G block, in close proximity to the Intensive Care Unit. The unit is best accessed via the Green lifts.
  • We do allow visitors however please be mindful that only two visitors will be permitted at a time and we do encourage a rest period from 1pm-3pm each day.
  • From an infection control perspective unfortunately we are unable to accept flowers for patients.
