Urology

The Urology Department is a referral site for simple and complex stone surgery with facilities to perform percutaneous nephrolithotomy.

The establishment of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) at Osborne Park has allowed provision of day case non-invasive stone treatment.

We also provide reconstructive urology and stricture repair surgery as well as laparoscopic surgery for kidney conditions, prostate surgery, and cystectomy for bladder cancer.

Members of the department are core participants in the WA State-wide Urology teaching program, running weekly tutorials for trainees and registrars of other hospitals. There is a weekly “Grand Round” where all the consultants attend to provide oversight over inpatients and as a teaching activity. During the week, individual consultants also conduct supervisory rounds.

The department has five specialist surgeons a single trainee, an unaccredited registrar, and two RMO’s. Both our inpatient and outpatient performance surpass applicable benchmarks.
