Shine a Light Walk - Saturday 4 November 31 October 2023 This November marks Lung Cancer Awareness Month, which aims to raise awareness of lung cancer and promote research into treatment and prevention. The SCGH Respiratory Department has collaborated with the Lung Foundation Australia to promote awareness and generate advocacy through a number of activities. Shine a Light Walk - Saturday 4 November Join the Perth Shine a Light Walk on Saturday 4 November from 4.00pm to 6.00pm at Lakeview Lawn, Kings Park. The event is being held across the country to raise funds to support ground-breaking lung cancer research. A lantern ceremony will be held to provide support to those affected by lung cancer, and remember and honour those lost to lung cancer. Volunteers required for falls education 24 October 2023 Are you interested in being a valued part of our hospital community and passionate about making a difference to patients' lives? We are looking for volunteers to join our Falls Education Volunteer Program to promote safety and independence across both Osborne Park Hospital and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. Volunteers will play a key role in falls prevention by providing personalised education for patients, and their families or carers, who are at risk of falling. You will help them identify their fall risks and develop prevention strategies using a simple and easy to follow workbook. Comprehensive training and resources will be provided to help you work with patients to identify their fall risks and develop prevention strategies. Volunteers required for the Emergency Department 16 October 2023 Do you know someone interested in emergency health care and looking to gain exposure within a dynamic hospital environment? We are looking for volunteers to play a key role in assisting patients and families or carers within the Emergency Department at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. Volunteers will direct patients to the triage area and act as the key facilitator between families or carers and triage staff. They will provide general support within the Emergency Department and provide patient updates to waiting family members or carers. Volunteers will liaise with nursing and administrative staff to escort families or carers to the correct patient once triaging is complete. Congratulations to our WA Nursing and Midwifery Awards (WANMEA) winners 09 October 2023 We're extremely proud to announce our 2023 WA Nursing and Midwifery Awards (WANMEA) winners: Sandra Vinciguerra, Jodie Atkinson and Dr Zoe Bradfield. Sandra Vinciguerra was the winner of the highly prestigious Nurse of the Year award as well as the Excellence in Primary, Public and Community Care award. Sandra's outstanding work as part of the COVID-19 Vaccination Program at North Metropolitan Health Service contributed significantly to the WA health system's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Sandra has broken down barriers to vaccination ensuring her clients are informed of the risks and benefits and delivers the vaccine in a safe and non-threatening environment. She provided more than 600 vaccinations, from the local park to remote areas across WA to support the community. Reaping the benefits of the Innovative Future (IF) Program 14 September 2023 A six-month pilot program trialling two new innovative pharmacy positions funded by the NMHS Innovative Future Program is set to be extended into 2024. As part of the Innovative Future (IF) Program, Chief Executive's Challenge, the pilot program objective is to demonstrate a decrease in the burden of non-clinical tasks for nursing and medical staff at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) which will now be incorporated into the 7 Day Hospital initiative. SCGH Deputy Chief Pharmacist Daniel Makarounas said the project was about allowing more time for nursing and medical staff to provide direct patient care. "It was a really great joint project between Pharmacy, the IF Program team, the Emergency Department, Ward C16 and the Medical Assessment Unit," he said.
