Renal access service

The Renal Access Service is coordinated by a clinical nurse specialist who works closely within a team of nephrologists, doctors, surgeons, nurses and radiologists.

Our services include:

  • preparing people for dialysis through planning for a vascular access for haemodialysis or a peritoneal dialysis catheter to enable home-based peritoneal dialysis.
  • offering vascular access surveillance in partnership with dialysis nurses to maintain longevity and prevent access failure for haemodialysis. This is a collaborative approach to care with the renal team, surgeons and radiologists.
  • providing support and education to the Midwest regional units and an outreach vascular access service.

For any queries, please contact the Renal Access Coordinator at the Renal Unit Office.
