Celebrating our dedicated staff! 11 August 2022 Jason Seet, Senior Pharmacist / Antimicrobial Stewardship and Intensive Care Unit Pharmacist has been recognised as the SCGH Employee of the Month for June 2022. Jason was nominated by his colleagues for providing exemplar clinical advice and support for patients and staff through the COVID-19 pandemic. Jason has worked tirelessly to create hospital and health-service wide protocols, provide guidance to clinicians and facilitate patient access to the recently released COVID-19 therapies via the National Medicines Stockpile. Jason's nominator said he is an excellent team player who works with integrity and places the optimisation of care for patients at the forefront of his actions. Farewell Phil Nairn 10 August 2022 Wednesday 10 August marks the last day of nearly 30 years at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital for Phil Nairn. A Senior Pharmacist in Neurology, Phil is a stalwart of the department, helping to lead the expansion of both the clinical pharmacy team and the provision of clinical pharmacy services at SCGH. Alongside this, Phil's passion for teaching means that he really has been instrumental in shaping the department as it is today, being involved in the recruitment or training of half of the clinical pharmacy team! Thank you for your wonderful support, team work and mentoring Phil. We will all miss your excellent stories! -
People of SCGOPHCG - Judy Lee 02 August 2022 Judy Lee is an Epilepsy Clinical Nurse who has worked with the Epileptologists from the WA Adult Epilepsy Service for the past 16 years. In 2016 the Service was transferred from Royal Perth Hospital, where Judy had been based for ten years, to the Neurology Department at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. The Service’s move to SCGH was undertaken to centralise clinical expertise and resources, as part of the State Centre for Neurosciences based at the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre. In 2019, Judy developed the Nursing Standards of Practice for Video-EEG Monitoring. Alongside this, she continues to provide regular education for nurses in the Neurology Ward in caring for patients admitted for video-EEG monitoring, including pre-surgical evaluation of epilepsy patients. Djilba brings relief and hope 01 August 2022 Though it's traditionally the coldest month of the year, August is the month of hope and relief as it leads us into the warmer days of Djilba. Represented by the colour pink for the blossoming newness it brings in September as Kings Park lights up with its burst of floral joy. In Noongar culture, it is marked as the season of conception; probably because there is nowhere better to be during these chilly days than under the covers in a cozy embrace. Nature's finest exhibition begins with buttery creams and the vitalising perfume and hue of sunny wattle before morphing into richer golds and tangerines and culminating in a biennale of magenta, azure and violet. By the time this eruption of colour is in our sight, we will have the warmth of the sun on our face and the promise that the coldest days are behind us. New facility offers beauty and function 28 July 2022 Patients on Ward C16 at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital are surrounded by images of Boab Trees, the ocean and a real-life fish tank, as part of the newly refurbished facility for the elderly. The refurbishment of the unit won the “Best Building Fit-Out in the $5m-$10m category”, last Saturday night at the Master Builders Association WA awards. Delivered by our Infrastructure Development team with Construction manager, Built Pty Limited (Built), the new look has been achieved under the minor works stimulus package. Construction manager, Built Pty Limited (Built), entered the C16 project for the MBA awards and its not hard to see why they were successful.
